A Feast for the Eyes: How “Hapag ng Kulay” Turns Filipino Flavors into Fine Art

Good Life – Artist: Rene Dominguez

This April, the language of the Filipino soul moves from the kitchen to the gallery as the “Hapag ng Kulay” art exhibit opens in celebration of Philippine National Food Month. Hosted at the LRI Design Plaza from April 4 to April 30, 2026, this exhibition serves as a profound exploration of culinary artistry, capturing everything from the vivid atmosphere of regional markets to the evocative steam rising from a communal boodle fight.

Organized by lead curator Arvino Yanuario and co-organizer Rene “MD” Dominguez, the event features a diverse collective of artists who use abstraction and symbolism to mirror the memories of provincial kitchens and the warmth of family gatherings.

The strictly by invitation only opening night will be headlined by Guest of Honor Mr. Guillermo ‘Ige’ Ramos, a distinguished food curator and award-winning author dedicated to the preservation of Filipino food culture. Visitors can expect a multi-sensory experience where the “flavor” of the paintings nourishes the heart, further complemented by an Arts & Craft and Food Bazaar beginning on April 17.

Cebu lechon may look familiar on the table, but ask the people who prepare it and the differences quickly come out. One town uses more lemongrass. Another adds coconut vinegar.
