Ringing in the Lunar New Year with Gallery Nine

From February 12th-March 12th, Gallery Nine rings in the year of the Metal Ox, a symbol of strength and resilience. 2021 brims with the promise of possibility and recovery. Like many industries, the arts have withstood last year’s challenges through hope and constant reinvention.

Continuing tradition while adapting to the new normal

Times may change, but there will always be a place for traditions like the Lunar New Year; events and auspicious symbols remain a source of inspiration and energy. As such, the upcoming exhibit invites positive energies through sculpture.

Metal symbolizes persistence, resistance, and collective interest, with the Yin metal element representing independence, money, and instinct. In terms of this year’s animal, oxen are known for their diligence and dependability. This makes the metal ox all too relevant in the context of the pandemic.

Investing in the human spirit

Artists and galleries will continue to remain even in our “new normal.” Last year’s drastic changes—online exhibits, physical distancing protocols, and the like—are not just for compliance with health guidelines, but also setting the standard within the art industry moving forward.

As we move towards recovery this 2021, art continues to be a good investment. The pieces not only bring joy, inspiration and spiritual enrichment; investing in art supports its creators and curators alike, offering a contribution to the ongoing cultural conversation.

The best investment is in the human spirit. Art will always remain, enriching its imagination and chronicling its evolution.

Taking the bull by the horns

This exhibit’s participating artists are Fhiexbird Orozco, Glenn Cagandahan, James Frani Dayrit, Jik Villanueva, Jinggoy Salcedo, Maria Magdamit, Mark Gil Beringuela, Merlito Gepte, Myra Molina, and Ral Arrogante. Their joint statement is a rallying cry befitting of this year: “Tollesque taurum cornu (take the bull by the horns). This year is a brand new opportunity to face adversities head-on with confidence and courage.”

Last year, Gallery Nine also held successful exhibits and took part in ManilArt 2020. The gallery hopes to continue its last year’s good fortune by showcasing the aforementioned talents on their first show of the lunar year.

We are undoubtedly at the precipice of societal change, but arts and tradition will continue to persist. The exhibit will be held at Gallery Nine, at the fourth floor of Building A, SM Mega Mall, EDSA Corner, Doña Julia Vargas Ave, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong.
