A Taste of Christmas, Reimagined: Puto Bumbong and Bibingka Take on New Flavors

There is something about the “BER” months in the Philippines that makes Christmas feel a little closer.

The familiar songs begin to play, Christmas decorations slowly make their way into homes and establishments, and conversations naturally turn to holiday gatherings, gift-giving, and, of course, food. Among the flavors that signal the arrival of the season are two Filipino favorites that have long been part of our Christmas memories: Puto Bumbong and Bibingka.

For many Filipinos, these treats are more than just something to eat. They bring back memories of cool evenings, family gatherings, visits to church, and stopping by a food stall for a warm serving of Puto Bumbong or Bibingka after Simbang Gabi. Their familiar aroma and comforting flavors have become part of what makes the Filipino Christmas experience feel like home.

But what happens when these beloved classics are given a little imagination?

As the BER months approach, Savoy Hotel Manila is giving Puto Bumbong and Bibingka a fresh take, reimagining these nostalgic treats in exciting flavors while keeping the character that makes them Filipino favorites.

The idea is simple: honor the tradition while making room for something new.

The classic flavors are still available, but this year, we are giving these beloved treats a little something extra. Our reimagined Puto Bumbong comes in two exciting variations—one topped with coconut milk, mango, and roasted sesame seeds, and another paired with rich coconut jam and latik. Each brings its own delicious character while giving this much-loved Christmas treat a fresh and flavorful twist.

For Bibingka, Guests can choose between two indulgent toppings: Leche Flan and Macapuno, or Queso de Bola and Hamon. Both are best paired with a warm tablea hot chocolate, making for a comforting combination perfect for the Christmas season. To make the experience even more special, our talented culinary team has also prepared a Sampaguita syrup, adding a distinct floral sweetness to these festive creations.

And perhaps that is what makes food traditions so special. They are not meant to remain exactly the same forever. They evolve with every generation, every family, and every new interpretation, while still carrying the memories that made them special in the first place.

This season, Puto Bumbong and Bibingka invite us to do just that: look back at the flavors we know while making new memories around them.

So, as the days get a little more festive and the countdown to Christmas begins, consider this your invitation to rediscover two Filipino Christmas favorites—with a delicious twist.

And There’s More to Come. Think you can take on your favorite Christmas treats? Watch out for our upcoming fun Puto Bumbong & Bibingka Eating Contest, where our Guests will soon have the chance to put their appetite to the test. More details coming
